Ayumi Fujishiro

International Kikizake-shi and Sake Lecturer Certified by the Sake Service Institute (SSI).  Having lived in Singapore for about 6 years, she is worried that she has become so fluent in Singlish that she is praised for speaking Japanese well.  “Sake Otaku no Ayumi Sensei (Master Ayumi the Sake Nerd)” is being serialized as “Sake Otaku Omotenashi English (Hospitality English for Sake Nerds)” at ENGLISH JOURNAL ONLINE by ALC PRESS INC.  Her favorite manga is “Oshi ga Budokan Ittekuretara Shinu (If My Favorite Pop Idol Made It to the Budokan, I Would Die)” (by Auri Hirao, Tokuma Shoten).

The Forum’s Official Drinking Party?! Let’s Talk about Sake and English while Drinking with All the Participants!

Those who work as Japanese-English interpreters/translators probably have many occasions to talk about sake as well as Japanese culture.  Just as you are about to enjoy the sake, don’t you often have to struggle with how to explain all the cryptic jargon that comes up one after another, such as “Junmai Daiginjo,” “Tokubetsu Honjozo,” “Muroka Nama Genshu,” “Kimoto,” etc.?

It may seem an odd topic for the Japan Interpreting Forum, but my proposal went through when I suggested “I want to give a lecture while drinking together!”  While having fun with everyone, I hope I can help you learn how to explain about sake in English with confidence.

If you can drink sake, please join us while drinking sake!  If sake does not agree with you, you can drink other alcoholic beverages.  Even if you can’t drink alcoholic beverages, I think that drinking water, tea, juice, etc. will make it more enjoyable (I will also be drinking lol).

Please feel free to join us.
